Promises that children will be heard in asylum-cases Norway
According to the Labour Party (Ap), more unaccompanied minors might get residence permit in Norway as a consequence of the White paper “Children Fleeing” (Barn på Flukt). – The child’s best interest will be given more focus and will trump other immigration regulations in asylum-cases, says Lise Christoffersen from Ap. However, the White paper has been criticized for being too vague. – Nothing would please me more than if the White paper would contribute to letting children, who have been living in Norway for a long time, stay here. But I fear that the current practices will remain, as the government refuses to change the laws and regulations, says Geir Jørgen Bekkevold from the Norwegian Christian Democratic Party (KrF). In Parliament, the Liberal Party (V), KrF and the Socialist Left Party (SV) have addressed the cases of children seeking asylum and have required automatic residence permits for minor asylum-seekers who have lived in Norway for more than three years.
